Effective Homemade Deodorant

As part of my plan for stretching myself in 2012 and continuing to reduce the chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis - I'm working to create more of the things that we use regularly.  Deodorant was one of those items that I really wanted to try making, but never seemed to get around to doing.  Oh, that procrastination and how it has held me back!

This project could NOT have been easier.  It took me less than 5 minutes of hands on time, and the result is way beyond my expectations.  My 14 daughter was very hesitant to try it but even SHE is converted!  I can honestly say that this recipe works better than store bought, and all without nasty chemicals.  Yeah!

Give it a whirl and let me know what you think :)

  1. I've been eyeing that recipe! So glad to know it works...tempted to toss the deodorant I was going to use up first, and just switch to this one!

  3. For years I have avoided using the store bought deodorant because of the chemicals. Thanks for letting me know this alternative works. I will pass this on to my daughter, who also is concerned about the chemicals placed under her arms.

  4. I've been really reluctant about this but, if your 14 year old daughter (who would be a stern critic) says yes to it, I'm in.

  5. Yes, Rose, our daughter is active in sports so she sweats a lot. She was so hesitant to try it because smelling like strong B.O. in front of friends is right up there on the "embarrassment chart" LOL. She is astounded at how well it works and also that she doesn't stink like tea tree oil (one of her concerns).

  6. But this is for smell only, right? Not moisture? I really need both and haven't found a homemade version that does both. Still, I'd like to give this a try!

  7. Hopewell, I'm not exactly sure. I know that I have NOT had sweat stains since using it... i don't ever feel damp under my arms since using it, even with moderate exertion but it's only been a few days. Full on cardio might be a different story. For the price of the ingredients, I suggest you just give it a try and see if it works for you! My armpits have never felt drier or smelled fresher LOL

  8. One other benefit I'm noticing is that I can wear my tops for another day... previously, even if my shirt was not dirty, I'd not want to wear it the next day because of it smelling "worn" and faintly like mild BO. Now, my shirts smell great the next day. Interesting....

  11. I haven't bought deodorant for years, using a corn starch, olive oil and baking soda version of what you've got there. I make is very dry and then pack it tightly into a deodorant stick for application. My daughter uses it too, but my husband likes strong scent in his products. I really like the homemade stuff.
