A Fantastic Weekend

It was one of those weekends that you never want to end...

We travelled to the interior of BC (to our son's wife's hometown) in order to spend the weekend getting to know her family.  Because Mitchell and Kelsey chose to elope in December (saving the money that would have been spent on a wedding for their house downpayment fund), there was no wedding celebration or reception.  The families didn't get the chance to meet and spend time together so this past weekend was the PERFECT opportunity to to get to know each other.

The whole weekend was a casual, yet intimate celebration that was tons of fun and very meaningful to everyone.  FAR better than a formal wedding as we had lots of time to visit and relax.  I highly recommend it!

On Saturday morning, we hiked with Mitchell and Kelsey to Margaret Falls.  The lush forest and the fresh smell of the cold clean water was tremendously refreshing on such a hot day.  Seeing this kind of vegetation reminds us all of home...

Just at the bottom of the falls...
Paige, Mitchell, Reece, Ian, Megan, Kelsey (and our expected Grandbaby due in November)

The brothers enjoying some "guy" time together with the tunes cranked and the wind in their hair as they drove back from the falls.

Saturday afternoon/evening was spent at Kelsey's parents' house for a delicious BBQ and family gathering.  Handmade signs and tea light candles hanging from the trees in mason jars made the evening seem magical...

There was yummy cake (made by Kelsey's Mom) and lots of smiles and laughter all around...

On Sunday, both families enjoyed a delicious brunch at the hotel where we stayed. The food was fantastic and the view of the lake was panoramic.  Following the brunch, we casually assembled for family portraits down by the lake shore...

After that, it was time to don our swimsuits for some quality lake time complete with sandcastles and swimming.

A perfect weekend...   two loving families joining to celebrate the marriage of a very special couple.

We love you, Mitchell and Kelsey XO

  1. Congrats! On the wedding and on the baby come November. It is very smart to save the money for starting out! I liken it to Christmas, material gifts aren't the true meaning of Christmas, and a fancy wedding is not the true meaning of vows. love, andrea

  2. Looks absolutely beautiful, you were all at one with nature and it just proves you dont need to spend a fortune on a fancy wedding, the relationship is what matters. The elopement sounds fun anyway!! Glad you all had a great time.

    1. Anne, yes the elopement was really kind of fun for them. They got married outside by a huge fountain at a lovely park in a beautiful old neighbourhood... It was all a sparkle with fresh snow :)

  3. What a smart couple - it horrifies me when folk spend zillions on a single day event. The weekend celebration looks and sounds wonderful and I'm sure everyone will remember it so much more clearly than the usual wedding blur of endless people and worry that everything goes perfectly.

  4. What a beautiful weekend, and a beautiful couple. Wish them all the luck. And I think a wise decision to celebrate this way, and not spending loads of money on one day. I think in this way the families get to know each other in a better way.
    groetjes, Gerda
