Oh the simple joy of topping morning oatmeal with home canned peaches eaten by the soft glow of candles... such decadence first thing in the morning! I had the forethought to save the peaches for January when I knew we'd be desperate for the sunny flavour of summer. Talk about starting the day off with a smile :)
Joining us at the table was Squeaker the cat and Melissa and Rosie (the ever present dollies wearing hand knits make by Grandma Lynne).
And let us not forget Lincoln.... watching carefully for the inevitable crumbs :)
Oh, and yes, these are the chairs! I did get them finished in December - all 10 of them....
you have a super clean floor, I'm envious!!!
ReplyDeleteBreakfast does look good. Do you make your own oatmeal or is it Quaker instant oatmeal in the individual servings?
Gill
In reading your post, I noticed one of the breakfast bowls. It has a horse and rider around the edges. Is it a vintage bowl?
ReplyDeleteMost mornings I have oatmeal with a little maple syrup. Your peaches would be better!
Gill, yes we do make out own oatmeal (whole oats, milk, butter, salt, vanilla, cinnamon). My floor is rarely clean, though - LOL - it just looks clean because we chose a mottled looking pattern the exact colours of 1) the dog hair 2) the mud from the driveway 3) the colour of spilled coffee and tea. Works like a charm and I LOVE my floor for that reason!
ReplyDeleteMeggie, the bowls are Emma Bridgewater :) I'd LOVE to have more of it, but it's so very pricey!
Yum...wanting to eat some breakfast now!Love Rosie and her knits!
ReplyDeleteYes our Golden Lab Cooper is always waiting for that dropped crumb or crust! Breakfast is my favorite meal...yum yum :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to start the day. We almost always have oatmeal too - with various additions - it's good for our bodies and great for our pockets, best of all I really enjoy it. I love the markings around Squeaker's little nose - they look like she has been sampling something.
ReplyDeleteWhat a homey scene! The dollies look like they have some fun hair ties in- are those like the ones you sewed and showed in an earlier post?
ReplyDeleteAngie
Hey Sherrie...love the photos of your brekky....the preserved peaches are a lovely touch to your oatmeal...and yes...we have two crumb watchers....and they sooooo love their job....Just like Lincoln I bet!
ReplyDeleteFantastic treat in the bleakness of january! I love this post and your furry friends are just gorgeous.X I found your blog via Meggie on the Prairie.I am now a follower and looking forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter spotted your dolls as I was reading your post - she has the smaller versions! I found your blog via Slow Living Essentials, and particularly like your post about finding time inbetween the day's activities! I homeschool my 3 kids on my own and also have a variety of animals, and have found that regular breaks to stop and take some time to myself are imperative. I will add you to my blogroll :-)
