R.I.P. dear Jacques... our handsome French Copper Maran rooster died in his sleep of an apparent heart attack. Such a shock! It happens from time to time, but BOY we're going to miss this fella... He was really THE man about town.
In other news, I'm recovering from a particularly nasty bout of pneumonia and have nothing exciting to report other than a week long (miserable) date with the sofa. Such great timing, I have... the VERY best gardening week of the year (weather wise) is just ending and the mozzies are out in FULL force today! I missed that blissful window of Spring when it's nice enough to be outside but not warm enough for the bugs...
*sigh*
there's always next year...
There is always next year, plus later crops. Maybe this year is a year for consolidating what you have learned so far. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rose XO All is well... it's just frustrating for this gal who planned everything in sequence (cover crops, grazing, planting, etc...) but a good lesson here - life doesn't often flesh out like a paper plan, does it? LOL!
DeleteHe really was quite handsome! I didn't know they had heart attacks.....hope you are soon well!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's just a guess, Meggie but that's what we have read.... In any case, we miss him - he was so "large" in every way!
DeleteOh, so sorry to hear about your Jacques :( Hope you are feeling much better - sometimes life forces you to slow down, especially when there's so much to do! We hardly have a spring here either - today was blazing hot and I've only just got my peas sprouting! Take good care of yourself.

YES, Jaime, we've had the same thing - NO Spring, just winter and HOT, dry weather.... How are you feeling? You must be REALLY ready to have the baby. I can hardly wait to see him!!!!!! XO Rest up for the big day!
DeleteSo ready and so NOT ready, lol! Feeling good, though - just some pregnancy insomnia. About 4 weeks to go, which I think is going to fly by :D
DeleteSome birds have a big presence - plus Jacques was very handsome indeed! I hope you are restored to full fitness soon...just don't do too much, too quickly. I'm sure you will still have some wonderful crops.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine - he was handsome, wasn't he?
DeleteI'm sure I'll be back to myself in short order. I'm already starting to feel better after 2 days of antibiotics. I hate taking them and almost never do, but my lungs are scarred from a previous pneumonia, so must take care of them and not let things get too out of hand!
Yes he certainly was a handsome fellow. RIP Jacques in the best chook place there is.
ReplyDeleteHope you're mended up all good very soon. Sending spare good bugs your way.
Thanks, Kristy.
DeleteOh poor Jacques, I hope it was quick! Now you'll have to find the right replacement for him as it's a big space to fill. Glad you're feeling better and do look after yourself well.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Rob xo
We have another rooster and his name is Sir Winston. He's a very timid wallflower kind of roo - not at all like Jacques was. He's got a bum foot but he gets around pretty well anyways... he has moved up into alpha position already - funny how fast that happens!
DeleteWhat a magnificent gentleman he was!
